Ten Stupid Arguments Against Gay Marriage

I recently came across a looks-like-its-well-funded website called nogaymarriage.com. Of course, my initial reaction was anger and i-will-hack-you-until-forever mode, but then I read their contents and found that I am actually grateful for their website.

Why?

Because it’s so stupid, it actually makes gay marriage look good without even fighting back.

I will present here an article they call “Gay Marriage: Why Would It Affect Me? Ten Arguments Against Same Sex Marriage“.

In a nutshell, the ten arguments are as follows (comments in italic):

Argument #1.
It will destroy the institution of marriage and lead to negative implications for children that are born out of wedlock.

Um, exactly how? In fact, more chances for adoption for these children will improve their lives.

Argument #2
The introduction of legalized gay marriages will lead inexorably to polygamy and other alternatives to one-man, one-woman unions.

First, gay marriage to polygamy? You’ve got to be kidding. Second, polygamy is sanctioned in other religions and it has been both an ethical and moral practice to respect others’ beliefs and practices. There is such a thing as separation of Church and State.

Argument #3
With the family out of the way, all rights and privileges of marriage will accrue to gay and lesbian partners without the legal entanglements and commitments heretofore associated with it.

Good!

Argument #4
With the legalization of homosexual marriage, every public school in the nation will be required to teach that this perversion is the moral equivalent of traditional marriage between a man and a woman.

Sounds great. Better education for the children.

Argument #5
From that point forward, courts will not be able to favor a traditional family involving one man and one woman over a homosexual couple in matters of adoption. Children will be placed in homes with parents representing only one sex on an equal basis with those having a mom and a dad.

I think this is the whole point of the campaign to end discrimination.

Argument #6
Foster-care parents will be required to undergo “sensitivity training” to rid themselves of bias in favor of traditional marriage, and will have to affirm homosexuality in children and teens.

Aren’t people glad they’re actually taking training to be more well-equipped?

Argument #7
How about the impact on Social Security if there are millions of new dependents that will be entitled to survivor benefits? It will amount to billions of dollars on an already overburdened system. And how about the cost to American businesses? Unproductive costs mean fewer jobs for those who need them. Are state and municipal governments to be required to raise taxes substantially to provide health insurance and other benefits to millions of new “spouses and other dependents”?

Since when did the Church get so selfish and want to deny others social security when THEY PAY THE SAME TAXES?

Argument #8
Marriage among homosexuals will spread throughout the world, just as pornography did after the Nixon Commission declared obscene material “beneficial” to mankind.11 Almost instantly, the English-speaking countries liberalized their laws against smut. America continues to be the fountainhead of filth and immorality, and its influence is global.

God Bless America should they set this example.

Argument #9
Perhaps most important, the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ will be severely curtailed. The family has been God’s primary vehicle for evangelism since the beginning.

See note on separation of Church and State.

Argument #10
The culture war will be over, and I fear, the world may soon become “as it was in the days of Noah” (Matthew 24:37, NIV). This is the climactic moment in the battle to preserve the family, and future generations hang in the balance.

I am rolling my eyes and refusing to grant this stupid argument a hint of intellectual response.

I am no het-hater and will gladly spread love and peace to all – but this website is absolutely ridiculous!

Thanks for the list. Sometimes people don’t know how dumb they sound when they think of something they feel is “wrong”. And shout out to you for posting on my blog. :)

“Perhaps most important, the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ will be severely curtailed. The family has been God’s primary vehicle for evangelism since the beginning.”

Uggh. I can’t think of anything worse than forcing kids to believe a particular dogma, instead of teaching them to think for themselves. God doesn’t want drones… although it seems like he has a helluvalotta them by this point.

Incredible to think, if the religious folks don’t actually have a strangehold over government mandate, they might actually be forced to rationally justify their beliefs and compete against opposing ideas. That’s not a bad thing at all.

I don’t really expect much sane humane reason from religious bigots. They’re prime examples of what blind faith is.

“Since when did the Church get so selfish and want to deny others social security when THEY PAY THE SAME TAXES?”

Actually, churches don’t pay tax. That’s right, they don’t even pay taxes and they’re telling us how to spend OUR taxmoney?

remeber god made adam and eve not adam and steve

^ stupid, but amusingly funny
