Have you guys heard about this?
MSN UK reports that more gays are “being offered help to become straight” by clinical psychologists/psychiatrists.
It also looks like the shrinks are making available a service that has yet to be scientifically proven effective, and a treatment to something that is not a disease.
Um, has anybody ever heard anyone going to the shrink and asking “Asian” treatments? Time and again we’ve shown that being gay isd actually partly genetic – something no amount of shrink-consulting can change.
If the shrinks actually offered sound advice like support services, it would be fine. I highly doubt that this happens, however. If the person is asking to be treated to become striaght and the shrinks are actually obliging, then there is something wrong in the motive right away. Most likely, the shrinks are yet again skimming our pink money.
I hope the queer-friendly shrinks come out and make themselves and their services available because it looks like there is a demand – and we better supply a qualified service if we want to keep the gay and lesbian mental health in check!

This actually happened to me as well! I have struggled with some depression and blah blah whatever else for some time now and my partner and I decided that I may need to talk to someone. I thought what the hell and gave it a shot. During my initial visit with the psychiatrist she basically told me that my sexual preference was the problem and that I should “pray” to my higher power to be “cured” lol! She said that my “chosen lifestyle” was the cause of my being “naturally imbalanced” Needless to say, I came home and told my partner what she said and we agreed that this “professional” j/k was a quack and I didn’t return. Yes i’m still crazy, still a raging Lesbian and happy as ever! I too am in high hopes that the gay/lesbian friendly psychiatrists start to come out of the woodwork soon. I live in Southwestern Virginia so it may be a while before we see that happen here though….lol
