Over the Christmas break, I have been catching up on my movie backlog on HBO. Caught the critically-thumbs-upped Transformers (2007) twice and I understood why reviews were kind – it was a whole lot of clunky fun.
The only thing lacking was a female robot, so I researched a bit online and found that there will actually be a sexy lady appearing on the 2009 sequel (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen). Caught sight of a prototype in the Hell for Leather magazine website:

Could she possibly be gay?
Isn’t she a beauty? She’s Buell-based and should’ve appread on the first movie but apparently explaining gender differences among our robotic friends will take up some precious screen time, according to Michael Bay (director).
This concept for the character was created by Lead Robot Illustrator Ben Procter during the film’s initial production. Here’s another photo:

Now I can be all political and go ballistic over the fact that the lady robot transforms into a puny motorcycle and all those cool-sound-effect-generating male robots get to be jet planes and trucks, but then again, the Transformers franchise was made decades ago. I can actually understand the difficulty it would bring, being honest to the franchise vs. trying to inject some gender equality, even on the robots.
Good thing there was a gender-bending mechanic Megan Fox to shut me up.

Yes, there have been a few female transformers. Elita One was the first one from the cartoon series back in the 80s. Optimus’s girlfriend. The most recent one is a spider-shaped robot named Arachnadia or something like that.
That would be Black Arachnia, first seen in BeastWars, and now in Transformers Animated.
G1 Fems were, Elita-1 (formerly Ariel), Chromia, Firestar, Moonracer, Arcee and Beta.
