"A mainstream film that features real s#x"

Watched All About Anna last night and found that there’s a surprise in the midst of all the heterosexual love making scenes. (If you want to see a full review of the film, click here)

Somewhere in the middle of the film, you’ll see Anna move to Paris to design bird costumes for a play. She develops a friendship with one of the actresses of the play, Sophie (played by French pornography icon, award-winner and radical feminist Ovidie). Some sexual tension appears as they tour around Paris and drink from fountain statues, and you’re almost disappointed it doesn’t lead to anything, but just wait a while and the customary lesbian lovemaking scene is there.

The scene is intimate and hot – there are a lot of kisses as opposed to the casual heterosexual scenes Camilla (Anna’s “man-eater” roommate, played with flair by Eileen Daly) engages in. It is also REAL – the scenes in the movie are claimed to be unsimulted. Then liaison is brief – they do it for one night in the dressing room of the theater and Anna leaves Ovidie to go back to her erstwhile lover Johan. But she does it lovingly so, and even with a farewell kiss.

Of course Anna and Johan end up being together and Sophie is nowhere to be seen after the tryst, but this isn’t a lesbian movie in the first place, and it was obvious from the beginning that it would lead to a happy heterosexual ending.
